We’re looking for bloggers who can write smart, witty, relevant and newsworthy posts on anything and everything Korean or Asian American. We’re particularly looking for writers knowledgeable in areas such as current events, arts & entertainment, activism, politics, race issues, sports, literature and food. If you’re interested, please send an email to michelle@koreamjournal.com that includes 2-4 writing samples, along with the area(s) you’d like to cover.

    Hi Michelle,

I’ve had a subscription to KoreAm for the past several years. As a transracial Korean adoptee, I’ve noticed that you often feature adoptees such as Amy Anderson. As I’m sure you’re aware, the adult Korean adoptee community is quite large. The International Korean Adoptee Association is growing, and incidentally, it is hosting a conference for adult Korean adoptees in Korea this August.

Where do we fit in as Korean Americans? There are approximately 100,000 Korean adoptees in America. That means that roughly one in ten Koreans in the United States are Korean adoptees.

What am I trying to say? I know many adoptees who subscribe to KoreAm Journal. And I’m sure you’ve seen emails, letters, submissions from Korean adoptees as well. Have you considered having a section, column (whatever you’d like to call it) from time to time that features issues that affect the Korean adoptee community? It doesn’t necessarily have to be printed, it could be cross-postings from a webring of Korean adoptee bloggers featured on the KoreAm website. I know many adoptees with blogs who would definitely be interested in this.

For instance, did you know that there are undocumented Korean adoptees in the U.S.? A friend of mine has started a blog that discusses Korean adoptees as “Involuntary Immigrants.” She discusses adoptees being deported, and the many Asian adoptees that were not naturalized by their adoptive parents.

It’s just a thought for you. But I think it would be a great way to attract more readers and create more dialogue on issues that are both unique for adoptees, yet the same for all Korean Americans. Let me know what you think.

    Thanks,
    Nate
