Korean law, as revised in 2000, restricts access to sexual content and places where sexual content/behavior is on exhibit from minors. Performers, since they have a captive audience of mixed ages who have entered the show, are responsible for keeping their shows clean within this standard. He made the show a space exhibiting sexually suggestive material in front of minors, and now he's facing charges. It's misleading to compare the situation to the release of Korean films containing sexual content (the writer of this article references "Sex is Zero"), because a defined rating system keeps minors from entering theaters or keeps parents from allowing children to view the films. Remember, performances like this have been only happening in Korea RECENTLY. The US already experienced this kind of controversy decades ago with Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. A lot of people initially didn't welcome their sexuality and provocative dancing but now both singers are considered legendary. Just give Korea some time. It'll open up eventually.... On the bright side, Korea's gotten a lot better. Remember when Ji-yun Park released 'Sung-In-Shik' in 2000? She was forced to cover up her belly/waist on stage even though the rest of her body was all covered.
