Name: Joon “David” Kim
Age: 30
City: Seoul, Korea
Occupation: struggling screenplay writer
Where were you born and raised? How long have you been living in Seoul?
I was born in Vancouver and raised in Toronto. I’ve been living in Seoul for a little over five years—definitely longer than I had originally planned.
What do you love about living there?
It’s one of the few places in the world that never sleeps. There’s always something to do or eat at any hour of the day.
What do you hate about it?
It’s not home.
What do you do?
I write and act; and in order to do that, I work several part time jobs.
What’s your goal?
To not have to work several part time jobs to do what I want which is write and act.
Describe your style.
I’d like to say “dark” and “mysterious” like Batman! Unfortunately I don’t have the luxury of a millionaire playboy alter ego; and I definitely can’t fight. So instead, I’d have to go with cocky, somewhat charming, and extremely playful.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
A little bit of both I guess. I rarely ever sleep.
Are you single or attached?
Dating someone but nothing serious yet.
Describe what you would consider a perfect date.
The 100th date.
What’s a guilty pleasure?
I have no pleasures that I feel guilty about. I have nothing to hide … except for my Japanese blow up doll Chikako Mitsubishi.
How do you relax?
Vegetate.
What’s your favorite book?
No Logo by Naomi Klein.
What are you most passionate about?
At the moment, my script. I’ve invested so much time and energy in this project and I wouldn’t have done so if I wasn’t so passionate about it.
What words do you live by?
“I can’t help it, it’s in my nature.” It’s the perfect excuse for anything!
I am KoreAm and proud because like the scorpion said, “I can’t help it, it’s in my nature.”
