Name: Jean Marie Hufford
Age: 26
Location: New York, NY
Occupation: Child guardian and stage manager on Broadway and Off-Broadway

Describe your background.
I was born in a small town called Gimcheon. When I was four months old, I was adopted by my wonderful family and brought to the U.S. I grew up in Arlington, Virginia, and went to college an hour south, in Fredericksburg. Once I graduated, I moved to New York to pursue my dreams to work in theatre.

What is one goal you would like to accomplish during your lifetime?
I would love to go back to Korea someday, either by myself or with on other person and just experience the culture. I visited for a couple weeks when I was 12 and 16 and loved it, but looking back I realized that I didn’t really appreciate my time there.

If you had to describe yourself using three words, they would be… Continue Reading »

Name: Andrew J. Lee
Age: 30
Location: Los Angeles
Occupation: Actor and writer

Describe your background.
I was born in Chicago and raised in a suburb that didn’t have a lot of Asians. I spent a lot of my time reading, writing and dreaming of being a professional skater and causing a bit of trouble in the neighborhood. The skating thing didn’t work out, but I loved movies and TV and thought, maybe someday I’ll try that, and here I am in L.A. collecting parking tickets in between auditions trying to make dreams come true.

Who has been the biggest influence in your life?
Parents obviously, for teaching me about work ethic and hustling and just being a good human being who contributes something to this world. Growing up, they wanted me to study medicine and law and business like every other Korean parent, but once they realized that I wasn’t built the same way and they couldn’t talk me out of it, they supported me 100% to go after acting and writing and be the best, nothing has meant more to me. Also, all those that came before me and inspired me like Daniel Dae Kim, John Cho, Tim Kang, etc. for playing against stereotypes. Age: 33
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Occupation: Commissioner of NFL Flag Los Angeles

Describe your background (where did you grow up, etc).

I was born in Dallas, Texas. I lived there for the first eight years of my life. Then I moved to Atlanta, Georgia, for my parents’ business and this is where I attended elementary, middle, and high school. After graduating high school in 1998, I went to the Georgia Institute of Technology and received my bachelor’s in Management Information Systems in 2002.

I then attended the GameFace Academy and received my certification in Sports Sales. After that, that is where my career in sports really took off as I have worked in the NBA, NFL, and Minor League Baseball. There are not too many Korean Americans, let alone Asians, in the sports industry and I take great pride as a Korean American to receive all the experience I had gained from working in professional sports. It truly has been a blessing.

Who has been the biggest influence in your life?

Two people:
My father (Mr. Ho Son Son) – taught me everything about life.
My first coach (Mr. Don Ward) – taught me everything about sports.

Who has been the biggest influence in your life?
I would say my parents are my biggest influence. Coming to America they worked endless hours and persevered despite obstacles that came in their way to support the family. Their hard work showed that anything can be accomplished.

Occupation: Student/Model

Describe your background.
I grew up here in Pittsburgh. My parents met when my father was in the Army and stationed in Seoul. It is such a remarkable story because my mother and father knew very little of each other’s language. Currently, I reside here in Pittsburgh and my mother is a professor in Seoul.

If you could have an endless supply of any food, what would you get?
It would definitely have to be kimchi, not only is it good for you but tastes amazing.

What is one goal you would like to accomplish during your lifetime?
The one goal I would like to accomplish during my lifetime is becoming well known in the modeling industry. I want to be recognized for my efforts and looks here in the U.S. as well as in Korea.

Tell us about a unique or quirky habit of yours.
A quirky or “bad” habit of mine would have to be that I can crack literally every bone in my body. From my toes, back, neck and ankles, I should just be my own chiropractor. Horrible habit, I know.
