Drinking soju is hot. Finding yourself face down on the toilet seat the next morning is not.

But we just heard the best news ever. Scientists in Korea have discovered that oxygenated booze sobers you up faster than regular booze and is less likely to leave you hungover the next day. Meaning … who wants to party tonight?! A Korean company called Sunyang Co will soon sell oxygenated soju called O2 Lin.

A couple downsides: Oxygenated alcohol is fizzy (hmmm, might wanna take some Gas-X) and it cuts down on how long you’ll be drunk for.

Speedy Koreans Taking Gold (And That Ohno!)

Just a few days into the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, and South Korea is leading the medal count in speed skating (not counting short track), with three medals racked up so far. In overall standings as of this morning, South Korea ranks fifth—behind Germany, the United States, France and Canada—in total medal count. Mo Tae-bum and Lee Sang-hwa each won gold, respectively, for the men’s and women’s 500-meter speed skating events. With a total time of 1 minute, 9.82 seconds, Mo finished ahead of Japan’s Keiichiro Nagashima who claimed silver, and Joji Kato, who earned the bronze. In the women’s event, Lee managed to beat out two favorites, including German world-record holder Jenny Wolf, who had swept eight races during the World Cup season, and China’s Wang Beixing. Lee won by five-hundredths of a second, with a total time of 1 minute, 16.09 seconds. …

Koreans Go Nuts For Gold-Infused Peanuts

It sounds like the world’s worst idea. Take perfectly good gold and infuse peanuts with it. Then sell those peanuts for people to eat. A Jeju Island-based company is doing just that and is turning legumes into cold, hard won, according to the Jeju Weekly. “At first, people thought I was crazy,” Golden Woodo CEO Kang Chang Yoon told the publication. Three years ago, Kang was inspired by a newspaper article he read about gold-infused rice. Some alternative health practitioners claim that gold particles provide anti-aging properties and improve intelligence. In recent years other companies have been producing a number of gold-infused food products such as dried persimmons and makgeolli rice wine. So Kang did his research and decided to bust a nut and put gold in it. “You could do mandarins and tangerines but peanuts are easy to preserve, transfer, and you could actually make money from it,” Kang told the Jeju Weekly. …

Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival

One of the the biggest Asian cinema events to hit Southern California opens on May 10. The Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, presented by Visual Communications, features the latest works by established and emerging filmmakers, along with seminars, panel discussions and symposiums on topics relevant to Asian Pacific cinema.
