Did you know that every 15 seconds a woman is beaten in the U.S.? That every two minutes someone in the U.S. is raped or sexually assaulted? And that 40 to 60 percent of Americans of Asian Pacific Islander descent fall into these statistics? It’s quite alarming, isn’t it?
A Los Angeles-based non-profit, the Center for the Pacific Asian Family (CPAF) exists to fight this issue. It provides a multi-lingual 24-hour call center, emergency shelter, transitional housing program, counseling services, and community outreach programs that focus on the needs of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
If you’re on Facebook, you may have heard that Chase is giving away $5 million to various charities. This week, CPAF is one out of 100 groups that are eligible to win between $100,000 to $1 million. With any and all proceeds, CPAF intends to reach beyond the API community to unify all 24-hour call centers in Los Angeles County. See its proposed plan here.
More than 100 members of the API creative community have come together on a completely volunteer basis to support CPAF in a PSA series, including several Korean American personalities: Sandra Oh, John Cho, Aaron Yoo, Leonardo Nam, Justin Chon, Priscilla Ahn, Far East Movement, Kaba Modern, David Choi, Joe Hahn of Linkin Park, and many more (as seen in the video above).

And finally, a very powerful personal plea from performance artist Alison De La Cruz:
You can help fight domestic violence and sexual assault by submitting one vote at www.VoteCPAF.org or clicking the button below. Every single vote counts. Voting ends Friday.
