When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Spider-Man, but I didn’t want to dye my underwear red and blue.
Have you ever been mistaken for a celebrity?
Several people in my youth thought I was the kid from The Goonies or Short Round from the Indiana Jones films.
If you were on American Idol, what would be your song choice?
Well, considering I have the singing voice of an alleycat, I would probably choose a rap song by TI or Jay-Z.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
I danced on top of the bar counter at [nightclub] Rouge to NKOTB. In my defense, it was against my will.
Describe your ideal woman.
She loves food just as much as I do, is a bit quirky, and sings out loud. Above all, she has to have a great sense of humor—or at least gives a great fake laugh when I tell jokes.
What’s one of your greatest life moments?
Jumping into a cenote in Cancun is pretty close to the top, but meeting the girl of my dreams is steadily climbing the charts.
If you could meet any Korean or Korean American, who would it be?
I’d loved to have met my grandfather. My mother is always telling me how I share a lot of his traits and I think he and I would have gotten along great.
What words do you live by?
“A day without laughter is a day wasted.”

I live in an era and country where I can express my KoreAm-ness with pride. It’s a great feeling to know just about anyone can freely express themselves now and not worry about ridicule or conformity. Except for jerks—they’re not welcome anywhere.
