The laugh-out-loud webseries about life in Ktown — think The Hangover with Asian dudes — is all the rage, recently lassoing in the Best First Feature award at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. The episodes are directed by our friend Daniel DPD Park and the solid cast includes Danny Cho, Lanny Joon, Bobby “Big Phony” Choy, Bobby Lee and Justin Chon.
We sent iamKoreAm.com correspondent Jeanifer Hwang to the premiere of “Ktown Cowboys” at the DGA in Hollywood. Check out her interviews with the director, cast and audience members:

Hotel Cafe was alive and packed for Bobby Choy, aka Big Phony’s ‘Kicking Punching Bags’ sold out album release show last Thursday. The set was complete with songs from the album including Short Intermission, and Talk of the Town. The show was a great experience of Bobby’s mellow voice and great acoustic sound complete with his charmingly honest lyrics. Bobby ended the show with one of my personal favorite’s, Girls Like You Don’t Go For Guys Like Me- an encore that was much requested from the audience.
Bobby will be having his East Coast release show Thursday, March 18 at the Living Room in New York so come out if you can!

One of the the biggest Asian cinema events to hit Southern California opens on May 10. The Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, presented by Visual Communications, features the latest works by established and emerging filmmakers, along with seminars, panel discussions and symposiums on topics relevant to Asian Pacific cinema.
Opening Night features “Shanghai Calling,” directed by Daniel Hsia and starring Korean American Daniel Henney, who plays a Chinese American expat lawyer navigating his way through the mean streets of Shanghai (the picture above also indicates he is a raisin smuggler).
