A journalist for the Wall Street Journal resigned from the newspaper on Tuesday following revelations she had an affair with one of her sources, an American official in Iraq, according to news reports.
Gina Chon reportedly had the affair in 2008 with National Security Council staff member Brett McGurk, while both were living in Baghdad. A series of emails surfaced last week in which the two exchange sexually-charged emails intermixed with regular correspondence.
The information surfaced ahead of confirmation hearings for McGurk, who is President Obama’s nominee to be ambassador of Iraq. McGurk and Chon were both married to other people when they began their relationship, the Washington Post reported, but have since divorced and married each other.
After her stint in Iraq, Chon was most recently working as a business reporter for the Journal. She graduated from Northwestern University, according to her LinkedIn profile.
